My dad grew up in New Market, New Hampshire (that's him with his sister and mom).
He left when he was 18, and if I remember correctly, he's only been home twice since then.
My sister and I have been trying to talk him into making a trip back to New Market with us for years now - just to see where he grew up and to meet family we've never met before, and he finally agreed.
He said it will be the last trip he ever makes home.
So my dad and I fly to Seattle tomorrow to meet up with my sister, and from there, we all catch a red-eye flight to Boston.
Seven days with my dad and my sister.
See you when I get back.
I live about 10 min from Newmarket! You are coming at a good time...supposed to be a great stretch of fall like weather!

I am also from NH (and a loyal blog follower for 10(?) years now) - this is a beautiful time of year to visit. I hope you have a wonderful time connecting with family! I will be interested to read your impression of the area. I am from the Lake Winnipesaukee area - definitely worth a day trip if you have time. Safe travels & enjoy!!

How meaningful. I hope the three of you are blessed by your time together. I hope you learn some things about your dad and that it gives you a clearer picture of who he is. I would encourage you to record and preserve this special time and all that you learn in a special way as it will surely be a keepsake for you and your children. Ask lots of questions and quietly listen to all that he shares and remembers. I am so excited for you!
