Oh Karen, I feel like I'm watching a wonderful movie when I read your blogs about your relationship with Josh. I can't wait to get to the end where he comes home (looking all fine in his uniform) and sweeps you off your feet into the sunset. Hang in there girl, he'll be home before you know it. And I want to add a personal thank you not only to Josh for his service but to you and your children for your sacrifices as well. God Bless You!

Karen, I think I sent several of those exact same emails during the year my husband was deployed. And, as he was in Baghdad, there were times they had to "go dark" and there was no communication allowed for a couple of days. Somehow, those were often the days I had that pit of the stomach feeling.

Every day is one day closer to him being home. And let me tell you, there's NOTHING like seeing your soldier march in with his unit after a deployment. Bless you all.

Olivia

Brought tears to my eyes! My son is going into the Marine Corps in the next few months. I dread the thought of him being deployed to Afghanistan or some other hot spot, knowing I can't be there to fix him up if something happens to him. Thank you for giving me a glimpse into the life of a family with a deployed soldier; thank you for giving me the courage to let go; thank you for the reminder that God is "just good and loyal like that."

Beautiful!! and yes, God is GOOD AND LOYAL LIKE THAT!!

:) Happy Weekend.

Beer goggles - I had to LOL on that! Good for you, Josh Downs!!!!! It's the little things that matter the most...

Oh Karen you have such a beautiful way of writing out all the feelings I've had this last year. I know that yucky feeling in the pit of your stomach all too well. So happy that you found Josh Downs. <3 Something my husband (that I affectionaly call Mr M) would always say is no matter how terrible the day is, you can't stop time. It's always another day closer to being home.

teresa b

oh Karen!! Tears again!! He is..loyal like that!! So sweet!!

Lynn

God bless you, Josh and your beautiful family. Thank you so much for sharing your love with us Karen. I appreciate it so very much.

I'm so glad all's well, and that you found just what you needed in life. Here's to many many more years of Friday flowers.

You're lucky to have each other...........and so cute too!

Nicole

I loved reading this...you are such a sweet couple and I am so thankful you two found each other. I know that excited feeling when my boyfriend calls me sexy and I get excited at the loyal texts and emails too. :)

Kathy

I'm so glad you got your confirmation email that he was okay and what a cute message it was from him as well. One day I hope to be sitting on a plane next to my Mr Right after marrying Mr Wrong....ummm now all I have to do is book a plane flight!! If it was only that easy. I love that you have someone in your life that loves you and treats you with respect even if you are like every other couple who has their little tiffs. I know having him home will be amazing for you once everyone settles in again. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia

Beautiful. Our thoughts and prayers are with your Josh Downs. So sweet.

Oh this made me cry and gave me goosebumps all at the same time. But it can't have been seven years already, can it? My 15-year-old son recently asked me what happens if you miss your chance to meet "the one." Clearly sometimes God plops the one right down beside you.

Although I read your blog faithfully, I never have left a comment, but I had to today. This was such a great post--so, so sweet. I admire the relationship you share with your husband. Sounds like you were totally meant to be together--soulmates, for sure. I hope the rest of the time he is away passes quickly so your family can be complete again. (On a lighter note, you're so witty! Beer goggles?! I think not! You're gorgeous--and from what I can just see and intepret online--gorgeous both inside & out!)

Beer goggles schmeer goggles - that, my darlin' girl....is love!

Oh dang it Karen. You know that when Josh Downs finally gets to come home we are all going to want to be there too. right??

Patty Lucas

Your posts about your husband always make me cry. We just celebrated our 40th anniversary and it has been one wonderful ride. I wish the same for you and your hubby and I pray for both of you. Thank you.

Maxly

This made me tear up. In a good way.

Nadine

you and Josh Downs make my heart melt

MSS

Your so right, you're one Friday closer, one day closer. This is a wonderful post that exudes the love and sharing between you and your husband. Whatever your experiences were before the day you met, you've been blessed from that day forward.

Ilona

love-googles! all good husbands wear them :)

Ilona

opps, love-goggles! love googling is what bad husbands do he-he

That's so beautiful Karen, thank you for posting this and reminding us how important it is to stay completely engaged in our relationships...no matter how far away we are. That Josh Downs is just pretty darn thoughtful isn't he?

renee

i'm so glad you were able to hear word from him that he was ok before you went to bed. and i'm so gladalso that your friday flowers are still coming - how very thoughtful. i love how you met josh on the plane and the circumstances around that as you've explained previously. i'm just sending thoughts from across the seas to your door in the hope that you're going ok.

Elizabeth C,

This is so perfectly written. I know what you mean about that pit-in-your-stomach feeling mid-deployment. Wouldn't it be nice if you could just call or text anytime? So sweet of Josh to continue with the flowers. You guys are so lucky to have each other.

Sherry

You are both so lucky and blessed to have each other :)

Yvonne

I shouldn't read your blog when I'm at work, as i sit here with tears streaming. I've had that feeling with my son in Afghanistan, unfortunately, we couldn't email him and get a response nearly quick enough. He's leaving again in January to go back and I dread it every day. I just have a sick feeling about this deployment that I can't shake, and he hasn't even left yet. Josh is an amazing man! You deserve the best and you have it. :) One day at a time.

alyssa

I love this love story of yours...

Melinda~

Oh geez this one brought tears! Reading what you said about him being Gods gift for all those years being a single mom moved me. You see I am a single mom and I know just what its like to hope for one of those God gifts. You totally deserve flowers every friday and your so blessed to have him even if he is a million miles away:) Thank you for sharing your story~

jenny

i look forward to every post these days to see what you'll write to josh downs ... if he's reading. :) not sure why ... but it's my favorite part lately. the love you guys share ... is inspirational. really! i mean that in the most undorky way! i'm praying the time passes quickly so he can bring you your friday flowers himself again soon.

Sylvia

Karen, you both are such special people. To have found a soulmate like that is just incredible. You are so lucky and is he. You are such an inspiration. Keep up doing what you do, because it is great!

Kate

this post brought tears to my eyes....

Donna Carter

awww Karen - you are so blessed to have a love like Josh....sending flowers very week! My dad was in the Vietnam War and he pre-arranged for my sister, my mom, and myself (I was 7) to have flowers on all special occasions while he was away - birthdays, valentines, Christmas, Easter, etc..he hand wrote each card to be sent with the flowers before he left.....that is love! I still have some of those cards, my dad is 74 now and very sick...it still amazes me that while preparing to go into a war he didnt know if he would return from, he thought of his girls.....and yes, i am Daddy's little girl! He hung the moon!

Karen, you and Josh inspire us all to love more deeply!
Donna

JayEssJay

oh... you are one lucky girl. one day closer...

Melissa

I can relate to this because I, too, have a husband who is "good and loyal like that" and I am reminded often how rare he is. So glad you have someone like that too.

Kelli R.

Hi this the first time I've read your blog and I sit here with tears in my eyes because I had many days like this while my husband was deployed. I hope it's not long till he comes home. Your blog is great!!!!
