Coley's been talking constantly about his two new best friends in kindergarten.
We'll just call them Billy and Bobby (to protect their little trouble-making identities).
And he says that they're his favorite friends because they're really funny. When I inquired about what it is that makes them so funny, he said it's because they aren't very good listeners and because they talk about a lot of things that they shouldn't talk about (apparently Coley has a real knack for choosing friends).
So I've been a little anxious to go to his parent-teacher conference.
It was yesterday and it was kind of cool. It was a student led conference, so Cole and I spent about an hour in the classroom playing number games and reading stories before I sat down with his teacher.
Aaaaaaand, I was happy to find out that even though Coley might think pretty highly of Billy and Bobby...he still thinks for himself.
She said he's a very good listener and that she's never heard him act or talk inappropriately. She said he's a leader (which I love about him), that he's a good public speaker, that he's a perfectionist (and we've got to help him to let go of that just a little bit) and that he's doing really, really well academically.
Mind you, I am not delusional. I've heard Cole spout off a few choice words before (in fact yesterday, he told me that Annie was pissed - said he heard it from Grandma) and I'm well aware of his affinity for hanging out with "funny" kids like Billy and Bobby.
I'm just thankful that he is respectful to his teacher (because that kind of thing is huge to me).
And it felt so good to hear her talk about him. To hear that someone else sees the same qualities in him that I see.
And he made this picture of an OSU Beavers shark for Josh.
Yay for Coley! So glad that he is doing so well, Karen! He is such a cutie pie and that picture he drew is just too sweet! This sentence - "And it felt so good to hear her talk about him. To hear that someone else sees the same qualities in him that I see" really hit home to me because as a first time Mama, what would make me the most proud in life is for someone else to see the good person that my daughter is. That is the highest compliment a Mama could ask for, I think. ;) Have a good Friday!

Great story about your son and his friends -- it's amazing how soon all of this social stuff begins! Love his artwork, too, so cute! (My husband graduated from OSU, too.)
