Josh and I sat down to wrap presents from Santa the other night. I've never seen A Christmas Story which flabbergasted Josh (we own it and I've still never seen it), so he popped it in while we wrapped. That's one funny movie...and now I finally know what my boys are referring to when they run around the house singing "you'll shoot your eye out".
Funny how you start out with perfection in mind when you're wrapping presents - but by the end, if you happen to cut the wrapping paper too short and the back of the box is hanging out...you just decide that no one is really going to be looking at the back of the box anyhow. Josh picked out all of the nice square & rectangluar presents and put them in his pile to wrap - leaving me with all the odd shaped stuff (that's why the presents he wrapped look so much better than mine).
Same thing with our Christmas tree. I LOVE big, full Christmas trees and dream of having a perfectly decorated tree that looks like it came straight out of Pottery Barn. But my family goes out into the woods every year to pick out our Christmas trees (there are no full trees out in the woods). It's such a blast though. We go sledding, build a fire, eat lunch, throw snowballs and come home with a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. I've decided that I love the event so much that it is worth it to me to have a tree with only six branches on it.
I love making a big event out of decorating the tree - so we have hot chocolate and cookies while we listen to Christmas music and decorate the tree together. The kiddos always seem to want to put 14 of the heaviest decorations on the same branch until it practically hangs down to the ground from all the weight (with bare spots all around it). Doesn't turn out much like the trees from Pottery Barn.
I've gotta say though (yes, I know I spell "gotta" wrong, I just like it that way) that every year, whether I stress out over making Christmas just perfect or I just kick back and roll with it a bit...it usually turns out the same (wonderful).
And somehow that goofy tree still looks perfect to me.
Enjoy.
Good Morning Karen!
These are the moments to remember, that song just kept going thru my mind as I read this today. Wishing you and yours a very Blessed Christmas and a nice relaxed New Year! :) Brooke

Merry Christmas to you and yours, Karen!! I HATE to wrap presents, so mine never, ever look great. But no one seems to mind! : ) This year our tree started out looking okay but then Cole decided to reposition every ornament on the lower half of the tree. But I like it that way, too.
